Hey,
Has there been any data collected on the !banmap entries for maps? I like the idea but was hoping to get some info on when the cleanup will take place. There's some universally disliked/broken maps e.g. gg_aim_ag_texture_jungle-l , gg_dogz_convoy , and gg_slimland_towers that either fall into rotation or are troll nominated.
On a side note, would it be possible to change the map vote selection keys from 1,2,3,4 to 5,6,7,8 to avoid people from mindlessly clicking #1 due to convenience. I've seen this work on other servers and it prevents people from ninja-ing the first map nomination repeatedly.

All data is collected for the !banmap votes. A lot of maps have been removed already. More will be removed soon to make space for some new maps.
I'm not sure what is wrong with gg_aim_ag_texture_jungle-l and gg_slimland_towers. They have been in our rotation for years.
gg_dogz_convoy is not in the rotation, someone must be nominating. It is a pretty interesting map to play once in a while. Is there some major issue with it?
We have tried 5678 in the past and the same issue persists with the first map being chosen. I can put the maps in random order, but then nominations with not be chosen first. The other option is a run-off vote at the end of a game between the top 2 voted maps.

For texture_jungle and slimland_towers, I've noticed a general dissatisfaction from players and !banmaps as a result. So I was wondering if there was any hard data to go with my anecdotal observations. It feels like one of those "everyone leaves the server" maps...
In particular, texture_jungle's design seems to cater to the CT side by offering them spawn cover and immediate access to the high ground overlooking T spawn with no counter advantage for T (except the surf slide that leads to CT's but most players will never use it). As for slimland_towers, it's a symmetric map but it's designed well for gun game DM in that it encourages constant camping of the ramp leading to an unsatisfactory and grueling meat grinder in the center (most players spawn, run up, and immediately die then repeat the process). I feel that some of these maps don't translate well from regular GG to DM. Again, my opinion but was curious as to what the data says.
As for dogz_convoy, the issue with that map is that it favors the Ts overwhelmingly who can jump onto the ground, speed down the map, and immediately access the CT spawn via the ladders (don't even need to curve jump, just strafe right into the ladder and then climb up). Since the CTs don't have that option, it's an uphill climb for them plus a constant harassment of back attacks from the T. My recommendation would be to somehow have the floor/conveyor belt split into both directions so that the CTs would have that option as well by making a copy of the train and reversing it onto the other side (with the floor going the opposite direction).
In regards to the map voting mechanics, I think the runoff would be a great idea! Would it be possible to have the selection in that interstitial period right after the final lvl 47 knife and when the next map loads (instead of immediately after that original list of 4)? Or will that not work because of how the map vote system works?

Hey Tiger,
Wasnt sure where to post this, so i figured on this thread would be alright since its...relevant..ish.
So the !banmap thing im guessing is on all DoGz servers?
and maps are being removed and added i guess by you or another DoGz admin, right?
Its probably a fair bit of work on your end, but hear me out.
I think it would be a good idea to have a visual representation of what maps have been removed/added to each server available to check here on the DoGz website.
so for each server you would have a list:
Current Maps
New Maps
Removed Maps
Or have a segment for each of the above.
This would keep those that browse the forums updated on what maps have been removed or added so that people can vote for a new map to try it out or something. (which, in itself is difficult, because everyone has their favourite maps and wont be arsed to vote for something else, but theres always a chance the vote will go for something new....)
But it does let us know which maps are no longer available at a glance rather than sorting through the nominate list.
Just a thought to go with the !banmap thing.

Pretty much everything on the nominate list is in the rotation. If maps are removed they cannot be nominated.
These are the only maps that are only played when nominated.

Compiling a list of new/removed maps would be great, but a big task, we have around 330 maps in our collection. |
