My buddy and I are heading to Texas in September for a Mans vacation (do a little Nascar driving, catch a football game in the new Dallas stadium, catch a baseball game, do a lot of drinking, but most importantly shoot some guns that I cannot leagly shoot in Canada i.e. AK47/AR15/etc...). I have been hearing tricklings that Obama is messing around with your gun laws (I am getting conflicting stories saying assult guns are being banned, the I hear it is only clip sizes that are getting capped), so my questions are:
1. What changes are happining down there?
2. Do these changes only affect private citizens or does it also affect commercail gun clubs too?
Where's BOB??????

Last I heard it had someting to do with automatic assault rifles only being allowed a clip size of ten bullets...Not too sure since I haven't really had much reason to listen. Never shot a gun before although I've wanted to, just haven't had much of a chance to. |

They want to bring back the 90's assault weapons ban. It would limit magazine size to 10, and ban semi automatic assault rifles (AR's AK's etc) an assault rifle is defined by a pistol grip stock, folding stock, bayonet lug, threaded muzzle and the ability to accept high capacity magazines. The last ban every one who all ready owned them were grandfathered! That's at the federal level. Some states all ready have there own versions of the ban. New York just pasted on where the max magazine is 7. Odd not many sizes like that. The federal ban has to get approved by congress, and I've heard they might have a tough time getting it passed! You should be good in TX! |

Oh politics and people over reacting
(by the way, the whole NY clip size is dumb, because it even restricts their police officers to that max mag size of 7?!)

You should be good in TX! Thanks, this pretty much would put you guys almost in line with the gun laws we have. In Alberta Clip sizes for rifles and pistols is 10rounds, shotguns are restrickted to 3 (illigal to pull the plug in the shotgun). That NY law is retarded! Our police force and the army are both exempt from the rounds limit law. I miss having the army in Calgary as they would have military days every year and was the only time I was able to leagally shoot full auto guns! ahahaha.

full auto nice! a couple years ago i all most went through the process to own one. takes a year to get approved, have to pay a yearly tax per gun and give the FBI permission to search your property at any given time. those gun prices have shot through the roof! the closest i've come to full auto is bump firing my ar-15 with a slider stock. pretty damn close! the stock helps alot, better then the thumb through the belt loop trick. |

Im from Jersey, so we pretty much have all the shit they are trying to pass anyway. Our gun laws here are pretty restrictive as well. no folding stocks, clip limit of 10, no foregrips on rifles, so we wont see much of a change here. Except i can't find an assault rifle or ammo for sale anywhere around here. Everything is sold out. The backround check centers that are set up to handle 800 calls a day are now getting upwards of 6000 calls a day. Took 2 hours to get my backround check last week when i went to buy a new shogun.
But texas is liberal as fuck, they worship their guns, and will probably hand you one as soon as you get off the plane. So you should be fine. |

The best I can do for assault rifles in Alberta is buying a semi auto, by law I am unable to purchase a fully auto gun for a private collection. To own a hand gun or a semi auto assault rifle I would need to get my Restricted Possession and Acquisition license, would have to go thru criminal back ground checks through the police department and allow the local police to enter my premiss to view my owned weapons. Thats just to get the guns, then I have to file for a permit to transport my weapon to a gun range (complete with a map showing I am taking the shortest route to the range). Way too many hoops, i will stick to owning my rifles and shotguns and go to gun ranges to rent to shoot hand guns and assault guns.

I've seen those stocks. However, there are other ways.
