Windows 8
Herpes
Anyone actually get some hands on time with this? I've been looking at getting an upgrade version of Pro for $15 from work as they just bought a new laptop.

I mean, there are some neat features to it but I'm going to hate the MetroUI and have decided if I'm going to acquire it I'd modify the shell to get the start menue back. Faster boot times, less bulk on system resources, a lot of internalized stuff I work with (mounting ISO's, etc.) are appealing for me, and for $15 I'm pretty tempted.

Thoughts? Experiences?

I will install it on vmware workstation and fiddle with it.

I heard lots of bad reviews. I won't be leaving windows 7 for a long long time. It works.

Remember, they ported a Tablet operating to a desktop operating system.

Windows XP (2001) - Good

Windows 7 (2009) - Good
Windows 8 (2012?) - Going to suck

For faster boot times just get a SSD, boots in seconds! For mounting images, just install Daemon Tools, create and mount multiple images at a time.
Windows 8 looks great for tablet, but not too easy to use on a pc, sticking with windows 7.

Well the thing is you can disable the MetroUI and still use the classic desktop. So, no biggy. I use Daemon tools a lot currently, and have a SSD already.

I will gladly agree that it is a bit of a forced transition, and that it's also pretty much designed with tablets in mind. It's funny how up in arms people are getting over the shell, you can easily replace it with something and tweak it to your bidding, but still have a good OS working behind the scenes. I've heard few if no complaints about the guts of it, just the exterior >.>
