I had an ipad2.
I've never been so happy to sell that pos off. The Windows 8 tablets on the horizon may be bamf, but at the end of the day I'd rather take my laptop for my uses.

This tablet isn't too bad. The Transformer Prime is the first Quad core processor tablet. Has pretty good graphics and when hooked up to the keyboard base it will fold over like a small laptop.... but does you one better by giving you up to 16 hours of usage. Still getting used to it, but will keep you posted. Came with 64gb on the board and added a 32gb micro sd and a 32gb sd card both high performance.

You lucky sun of a gun! I picked up the HP Touchpad 32GB flashed Android Ice Cream Sandwich and it runs superb. I didnt get it for $150, instead paid $250. Still a good deal considering it beats the crap out of the Tegra 2 tablets.
That prime you have has nice tegra 3 chip. Did you unlock the bootloader/root it?
I may not upgrade for a while. The hp is a decent tablet. Once the android team gets the camera, microphone and other stuff working, it will be really nice.

Really the only thing the Ipad trounces on are two tihings... first - the retina display... the pixelation is so intense it's better than any of the tv's out there... do you really need it? ehhhh... Second - the other thing is that it offers the option of 4g. If you think about it though, most decent smartphones today have a tethering option... do you really need the 4g option? Would be nice, but a regular wifi tablet would be fine as most cell phone companies are cutting back their data.
Where the Prime is a better option is this, it actually has 5 processors. What was buried more int he facts was that it has a low power small processor that it uses for meanial work. Word documents, light applications, and other apps along the same. The quad core only kicks in when more advanced apps are used.
The Ipad only offers cloud storage and 64gb onboard memory. The Prime offers not only a micro SD on the tablet itself, but also a standard SD slot on the keyboard that you can attach to it. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather save my personal stuff on my own memory and not rely on someone elses server base. The whole hacking thing over the last few months has shown me that even the best of companies aren't hackproof and I'm not storin my stuff anywhere else but with me. Additionally, the Prime also has a micro HDMI slot on the tablet and a USB port if you get the keyboard option. You don't have external hook up options on the Ipad.
While in the end, it's literally all about preference, if you want pay over $820 for an I pad, or pay about $200 less for the Prime, they are both great tablets. I found that I have more options with the Prime. Just my two cents....

OK... I'm great with specs... and know enough to be dangerous ... to myself .. lol ... when it comes to software. What is it to unlock this stuff? What is it supposed to do by unlocking it? Now if it offers me the option of changing my operationg system... that might be something I'd look at. I know they are saying Microsoft 8 might be a better operating system, but I'm waiting to see how it all works on other tablets and smartphones first. Just curious....

Ehhhh--turns out I don't know enough about mobile chips. Then again, most people were surprised what the ipad could do with only 512mb of ram and as far as I can tell noone's benched the A5x chip yet. I wonder how that will stack up.
When you unlock the bootloader you can load different roms (or OS) such as linux, etc instead of just booting into the default OS. Looking around I haven't seen anything with Windows 8 being run on a transformer prime, although Win 8 will have an ARM processer friendly version available. However, from that same quick googling around, it looks if the OS worked, not all of the programs written for that OS will not be compatible with those CPUs 0.o

Here is a rundown of the benefits of rooting...
http://www.androi...oid-phone/
I like having full control of my devices. I can install applications that are unapproved by other companies. Delete bloatware on my devices, and like herpes said install custom roms (operating systems) Install Ubuntu, arch, etc.
But if you just use it for basic use (web surfing, videos, gaming, email, etc) then no huge reason to root it.
Also since rooting gives you full access to your device, applications that are considered to be malicious will take over your device.

Scooby, my dad is planning to buy the transformer prime. I just wanted to know that did you get a microsd card when you bought your prime and do you know what size it came with?
He is getting the 32GB version.
Thank you.

I bought the card. It doesn't come with one. You need to make sure it is at least a class 10 card. That entails no less than 10mbs tranfer rates. Pay the extra few bucks... it's worth it. If he gets the keyboard to go with it, he can get up to a 64gb card with the standard SD which the keyboard docking station takes. I'd also recommend going with the google chrome browser over the ice creams sandwich browser. Just a couple things I've found.

Thanks for the recommendations sir.
Have you tried dolphin browser or firefox? FF is crappy for now, but dolphin HD is very very nice.
Currently, i am running a alpha android build, so these browsers crash once in a while

I'm most likely going to get an ASUS memo 370t once it's released. 7 inch 1280x800 ips screen, tegra 3, 1GB ram, 8GB NAND sd card slot for $250.

Yeah... while originally the IPAD was said to have a quad core chip, that is actually incorrect. It's a dual core chip with a smaller quad core for graphics only. Because of the retina display it requires the quad just to run the display apparently. I think Apple is trying to hold market share by not allowing for the whole story. There was also mention apparently that Apple had claimed their chip was a better faster chip... but didn't have any data to back it up. There is alot about what they've done with this latest release that I know Steve Jobs wouldn't have gone for. There is an air of dishonesty ... I'm disappointed. Upon further reading, the newer Ipads may not even have as long a battery life as the Ipad 2... with the new technology, they are saying there will be more power consumption. I'll be waiting to see the reviews once it comes out.
As far as the browser stuff goes, my wife has a website for her job that redirects her. None of the other browsers worked except for chrome. Ice Cream Sandwitch is only working with about half the apps right now unless it specifies it will work with Ice Cream Sandwich.
