Alright, so I know absolutley nothing about computers. I am really interested in purcahsing a laptop though. I want something with space that run quick. It does not have to be an amazing gaming computer, but at least good enough to DECENTLY run CSS (I need that much.. haha). I am not made of money, so any deals you know of, or discounts I can get for being a student or something like that, let me know.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave some info for me.

Think I've found an addiction as bad as WoW, for me at least. Crimecraft.

Hey man,
I checked out dell. This website is the same computer i have just a little bit of an upgrade. its not expensive for a laptop. or you can get the 15 inch which is like 200 cheaper. Or look at Craigslist for one and meet with someone and ill come with ya ta check em out.

I think what you really need to look at is processor and screen size. Almost everything else can be upgraded later.
The screen is the most expensive piece of a laptop. So, if you want a really nice screen, then it's going to be reflected in the price. Don't worry too much about RAM and HD space as they typically are putting enough in them. A laptop with more than 1GB of RAM is where I would look for.
Laptops are very specific items. They won't run 100% all the time (they only run their advertised speed when they are plugged in (called stepping)). A common problem with laptops is where the power connects to the laptop. As a lot of people let the weight of the power cord hang from the laptop, over time and heat, the solder on this connection gets weak and sometimes will come apart enough to break the flow of power. If this happens, then you have to replace the motherboard as it's part of it. If your lucky, you can have someone heat the solder back up and melt it enough to make the connection solid again. So, the whole point is to look for a connection that seems secure, not much wiggle room or have multiple pins that connect it.
I can't give you specific models as everyone's taste are different, but knowing what to look for can help you make a more informed decision and you will ultimately be happy with your choice. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! |

russ-
ya like i said when u were at my house and like ironclaw just said. look for >1g ram...the processor you would probably want a dual core which isnt hard to find which means your computer can do twice the processing power that a single core can do making it that much faster.
ironclaw is TOTALLY right...the screen size IS the price really...so since you are lookin for something cheaper than a 15" is probably the way to go for you.
as far as the power connection thing goes i'd say dont worry too much about that. you'll probably leave it plugged in all the time at your house so when you set it up just make sure there is no pull on that connection. uhm...even with the amount of music that you have and movie's id say don't worry about Harddrive space since most of the newer laptops are 250+ gBs.
dont worry about the operating system either ill put XP or Windows 7 on it for you if you need i have both the CDs so you dont have to worry about Vista on it lol
oh btw, Ironclaw knows his shit lol nice post Ironclaw ;D

This is all quite interesting.......i've been thinking about buying a laptop as well. Just for the simple things, ya know? Such as playing cs while sitting by the pool.....while standing on my roof....while mowing the lawn, not to mention being able to annoy the shit out of people with my epic lag!
Snugz! you should totally hook me up with a windows cd... LOL |
