If your wanting a better system then I would start from scratch. I would have to look again at what is out there. First ask your self what do you want (i.e. max upgradability, ram size, harddrive size, etc...). Things to remember: DDR3 does not have a great enough performance boost over DDR2 ram and DDR2 ram is way cheaper to by then DDR3, but this could limit your upgradability in the future. If your looking to have anything over 4Gigs of ram then you will need a 64bit operating system (32bit systems limit you to a max of 4gigs). Think about putting 2 hard drives in (one for your OS and one for all your other programs.). Terebite drives are getting cheap, so if you Dl lots of music/movies/pics you may want to consider this. Youll want a case, but insure the case will work for the space you have!! Dont buy the top VC out on the market, to me it is not worth it. Save your money and by a slightly older card (i.e. dont rush out for a Nvidia GTX280 when a 9800GTX will do for a third of the cost.). Lets face it you will be upgrading your VC every year to 2 years if your constantly buying new games. Dont spend more money on overclocked items like your processor. Lots of time if you read the specs on a processor that is that is 2.3ghz and you see the same brand processor in a 2.6 ghz they are normally the same processor except one has be factory OC, you can OC at home easily so save your money and by the 2.3 (Keep in mind there may be other differences though, like the larger Ghz rated processor may have a bigger cache.). Im sorry im being vague, but with comp systems it really boils down to what you want and how much you are willing to spend. I left out sound cards, but I personally dont really get worked up about them, but some games require pretty highend sound cards.

Remember you can have a kickass system and still have lat issues. A lot of your lat issues come from your internet provider and how your signal is routed to the game server you are playing on.

you can get a great system for 1000 IF you know what to do.
the first question is do you live in a state that has a frys electronics. The second is how much hardware can you re-use
Monitor-- if its good enough for you then you dont need a new one... same with keyboard and mice... they all shave the price of the next system. Do you have a sound card worth keeping (audigy or other). if so your good to go.
Begin by listing all the parts you can reuse
Monitor
inputs(mice keyboard, joysticks)
Hard drive (you can re-use the one you got or buy a bigger one and use the old one for storage)
DVD Drive (why buy new when you got one already)
You will propably need a new case (spend at least 80 but no more than 150.00)
If the case didnt have a power supply then hit newegg for a 5-600 watt supply for like 60-80 bucks
next should be mobo and processor (if you have a frys electronics nearby then they have combo deals that can hook you up with a high end quad core and mobo for around 250-350)
Spend the rest on at least 2-4 GB of ram (80-120) and you still have like 2-300 bucks left over for your video card, unless you need to get a copy of windows which will run you 90-100 for an oem disc
Welcome to your 1000 dollar ass whooping machine

Actually your wrong, you get raped when you by that system. You can build a better system for about the same or a little less then your paying dell.

I just built my computer from scratch. My brother builds/assembles hardware computers, and I am more in the software compartment. I have had the same computer for 3 years now, and the only thing that i have changed was the video card. I'm running two GeForce 8500GT's right now, so ill probab;y get two GeForce 9800GTX's next year. Just to keep up with the new stuff. |
