OK, so I've been really lazy about getting this post up here, but I've been wanting to do it for quite a while. First off, let me start by saying that I really enjoy playing on the Dogz servers, and all the Dogz members I know are cool. I haven't met a Dogz I didn't like.
Most of you probably know I've received a couple of invites to the Dogz clan, and so far, I haven't followed up with an application. I feel honored to be invited into the clan, and hopefully this post will hopefully explain my hesitation in applying.
First off, I've never been in a clan. This isn't because I think clans are evil or anything. Mainly, I'm just really hesitant to join & commit to any particular group. I'm a pretty non-committal person and I know that can be a fault at times. I've wanted to avoid clan membership responsibilities because I know that at any time I could have to drop out of gaming altogether due to work responsibilities, family responsibilities, etc. I'd feel bad if I was committed to a group and then had to drop out like that.
Another issue I have--and I know I'll probably get laughed at for this--is the use of profanities. I feel that profanities are unprofessional, degrading, and show a lack of respect. It's also kind of like a dumbing down of language, so to speak. I feel that in a sense, it parallels both the dumbing down of society (my wife is an educator and that's a whole subject in itself!) and the erosion of true respect. Now, I know that pretty much everyone uses profanities these days, and I certainly wouldn't ask anyone to change to suit my preferences. That would be completely unreasonable of me. However, if I ever were to join a clan, I would prefer (though not require) that clan to have ?no profanities? as one of their server rules.
The other real issue I have is that even though racism is supposed to be forbidden on the servers, there have been several occasions where it has slid through without punishment. Racism is an issue that I feel very strongly about. The idea that anyone is a superior human to anyone else is simply preposterous. In fact, it's more than that?it's evil. That notion is what led people down the path of slavery and the Holocaust. It's a hate-bred, destructive mindset. So it burns me when I sense someone is being derogatory against a certain race. I won't name any names, but I've been present when an admin or admins let the N bomb slide just because the person dropping it was a friend. Also, I've heard antisemitic remarks (even from one or more Dogz members) without any repercussions. Now, I know that sometimes there can be good-hearted humor based upon (the fears of) race?some of the In Living Color skits come to mind?but when comments are derogatory and demeaning, that is completely unacceptable in my book. This is probably the thing that has held the most weight in holding me back from applying to Dogz. And just so you know, I don't hate the people who have made these comments?I just hate the hate inside them.
Well, I hope this post helps you all understand a little more about me and where I'm coming from. Again, I really enjoy playing with you all, and I hope to be playing with you all for a long time to come!
One final note.... the Gungame Turbo server.... ever since the switch to the new server, I've had horrible ping times to it. I've heard the new one is at a different data center, but I went from having pings in the 50's to pings in the high 90's and low 100's. It's killing me!!!! Haha! |

Johnny. I like very much the way you write. Your missive was complete and concise. Just so you know.... if you EVER hear a person drop an Nbomb or make a comment not consistant with our beliefs please tell me personally. I will take care of them. Im not one to like "nigga" as a term of endearment. Nor do I appreciate hearing it. Any inappropriate language or behavior needs to be dealt with. If you feel that strongly about it then make the commitment to documnet it for us. You have my email and Im in your friends. We can squash that crap. Now I am Italian.. I swear! But I try not to drop to many Fbombs in the server. Yelling though.... LOl
But seriously I'd love to see you join. As you can see there isnt anything to the commitment. Just a bunch of people having and trying to enjoy each otehrs compnay. Well accept Sub LOLOL j/k

I'm an ANGEL I never swear ever never ever! haha I really agree with ya there John. The profanity cutting down will be an issue cause face it it's a game and if people get disrespected by some random mayhem occurs. Cutting down on it wouldn't be a bad thing at all. I agree with ya.
Racism on the other hand is just dumb and disgusting. Even used as a joke it still has the same effect on some. I've been in the server plenty of times with admins and someone says Nbomb or something of that sort and gets the BANHAMMER so I must say "Job well done". =p |

I do want to echo Almost's comments about people getting booted. I have seen that many times as well and want to say "thanks" to the admins for dropping the hammer!
And as for profanity... I do realize people can get excited while playing the game. You are not going to offend me by swearing, so stop trying to!! LOL!
One more thing. Ch0de and Almost, will you please stop killing me and let me win a round or two? I'm trying to get into the top 10! And somebody, please give me some knife hax! |

I just want to say that like chode said there really are no certain commitments that you need to forfill as a member..no certain amount of time you have to play ...no amount of donations...just try to uphold what it is to be a dogz is all..which should be ..being respectful to others..have fun or atleast try to have fun..and as a dogz admin it is very important to uphold the server rules ...they are there for a reason and should not be taken lightly no matter who it is that breaks them..I think that I personally have done this the best that I can when I am in the server's and I'm pretty sure regular's know that I am one to enforce rules..I do hope that the ones that you spoke of but did not mention..will do the same in the future...Admin is not given to all DoGz as soon as they join it IS a responsibility that is given to those that are trusted to enforce....and if there are any admin's that do not agree with the rules or are not willing to enforce them to ALL.. then they should not be admins. And I also enjoyed what you had to say Johnboy..you are the exact sort of members that we look for ... join us.

Well, you guys have definitely set my concerns to rest here, and I really appreciate all of your replies! It's good to know that the clan has values and concerns that are compatible with my own. And as I said previously, I've always enjoyed playing with you all.
As a result..... are you ready for this??? I would like to apply to DoGz. Just one question.... can someone tell me how? I'm such a n00b and couldn't figure out how to post an app! Also, you have to tell me who wins the bet about my app!  |
