Need help buying a tablet

I'm in the market for a Android tablet. I'm looking to be in the $150ish range. My primary use of it will be for GPS nav for my 4x4. A lot of the trails we rock crawl and run are pretty well impossible to pin point on a map. I've got an app called Back Country Navigator which I've been very pleased with, but with how small the screen is on my Samsung Epic 4g phone, it's kinda hard to read while driving or moving. So this puts me in the market for a tablet. I'd like atleast a 7" screen and wifi abilities. I don't want to or plan on getting cell service for the tablet. I will probably have to figure out an external GPS setup as I believe most tablets don't come with it, but then again I really don't know.
I'm not in the market for an iPad, nor do I care to be persuaded towards them or care how much better someone thinks they are... so please don't get into that. Sorry to be a dick about it but I've posted the same thing on a couple of other forums I visit and it always turns into an apple vs android piss match and I don't care for it. I like android, it works for me.
With that said, who's got some advice for me? It's primarily gonna be used for my rock crawler for GPS nav and trail tracking and would like to be able to have music on it too so an SD card port would be nice, especially to save maps on.

For android, I went and purchased a TF300T by Asus. It has 1GB of ram and a Tegra 3 cpu/gpu, but the price is $210 for a used condition.
Your better off getting tablets from here http://swappa.com.../tablet/us
The site checks for all tablets and phones (via ESN) for any stolen, damage etc. Sellers have to indicate every problem in detail.
I think you should just get the TF 101 as its $185 and has all the bells and whistles.

I've checked out the TF101 and also just checked out a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. The tab 2 is $180 new and I can get a bundle with a case and 8gb sd card from TigerDirect. Which do you think is better? The galaxy has GPS as well... I didn't know this until I went to best buy and played with one. For some reason no website lists the Tab 2.0 to have GPS, but it does.

if you need a gps android is google lol google maps has a built in gps if you don't like googles you can dl another gps

Just because you can download google maps doesn't mean your phone has gps... and a lot of the navigation apps rely on an internet connection to constantly cache the map as you're going. So with a phone, or tablet, with GPS built in, you can have the entire map of an area saved to an sd card and the GPS of the device will show you where you are on that map, without cell service or wifi or any type of internet connection. Standing in the middle of the forest in the middle of the mountains miles from a designated road, Google Maps isn't going to show me anything to distinguish my location. The Back Country Nav app goes off of topographical maps so you can download forest service maps, which show all sorts of trails, roads, paths, hiking and ohv area's, etc etc. This is for off road 4x4 use so I can find trails and trail heads, geocaches, and track my trail runs. Not for getting directions on how to get somewhere around town; my cell works fine for that.

any android comes with google maps as a gps it's part of android.

and yes google maps will show you actual satellite images instead of an actual road style map.

So much for your $150 budget! ahahaha. just got my kids each a Tab 2 I think they are good for the cost and even though I am late in this convo the Samsung tablets run the same OS as the Phones and come with all the same apps from what I see. Side note the Navigation GPS (the free one) on the Samsung's works great for a free GPS.

The Tab 3 was $200 bucks out the door. The tab 2 was $180. Didn't wanna take a chance buying refurb with how fragile they seem to be. I've been pretty happy with it and think I made the right decision. I've been using Samsung phones for about 7 years now and have been impressed with them. Within half the day of 4wheeling, I managed to drop the tablet on the dirt/rocks. Put it in my pocket to hike a bit and on the way down I started to jog and it just plopped outa my pocket and skidded across the ground e.e so the case has a scratch and the very corner of the screen has about a 1cm scratch. Next investment will be an otter box or some type of heavy duty case lol

Oh and it worked beautiful with the Back Country Nav app and the maps pre cached to a micro sd card. The GPS was accurate within 3meters. Did numerous trail markers and routed my whole path through the day. Everything without internet. Battery was still above half by the time I got home some 7 hours later with about 30 pictures taken with it and a couple of videos. Next I'll get my music all setup on it and figure out a nice dash mount or something so it isn't bouncing around on the trails and sliding off the seat on hills lol.
