They are one of the truly safest cars on the road. I don't know if you ever saw any of the early volvo commercials, but they would drive the damn thing off the end of a bridge on to concrete and the damn front end would crumble but the passenger compartment would stay intact... unscathed. Good car. |

eh i don't buy it, #1 they are crashing into cars 1/3 the size of the volvo of course its gonna rip them up. .....i could punch a fuckin geo metro and cause more damage
also they were stunt driving and avoiding bumper to bumper collisions it was more off to the side (or up into the windows when using the ramps)
and when the cars are standing straight up and down big deal they are hitting the lowest point of gravity the vehical is easy to flip without damage.
oh and P.S. pay attention to the tires at some point the rims change from being black to a silver rim (different car maybe?)

Yes the passanger compartement may look intaked in the second video, but what you do not see is the engin block that is now in the back seat! All your points were valid Zodiac, even with the rim change I have no problem buying that it was the same car just changed tire probably cause they tore them up with the type of collisions they were doing. I do not know much about Volvos, I have owned a honda in the past and no matter how I drove it it kept going (to put it into perspective I drove a 81 Plymoth reliant and an 86 Ford tempo into the ground in under a year a peice the honda I had for 3 and was going strong when I used it in trade to get a DJ for my wedding! ahahahaha) I still drive foreigns (07 Toyota Camary and 2010 Nissan pathfinder).

Seriously... the volvo commercial i'm referring to was in fact a true test to see if the passenger compartment would stay intact, and it did. If you ever have read up anything on the cars, the reinforcements built into them were unbelievable. They were one of the first car companies to have the high safety standards. This video that's posted here is just a guy being a guy... lol Any guy that knows cars will confirm about volvo safety though.... |

I own a 1994 Honda Civic Hatchback and a 1998 Volvo V70 XC (Cross Country). I've been into Honda's since I was about 15 years old and will vouch for them any day of the week. The reliability on them is outstanding and the parts and repairs are really easy to afford and find. With that said, I bought this Volvo out of the parking lot from a guy I work with as a joke. I'm a diesel mechanic for Army vehicles (government contracted) so when I noticed the Volvo sitting in our parking lot I poked fun at the gun and said "Since you obviously don't know how to fix it I'll buy it from you for a grand". Too my surprise he said ok. Thinking it was the fuel pump and since it was a $600+ part alone (no labor), he didn't want to deal with it. Upon further investigation and a lunch break spent tinkering with it, I drove the Volvo home the next day with a paper clip in place of the fuel pump relay. The guy was madder than hell, but oh well. Needless to say he wasn't the best mechanic, and no longer works for the company. I've had it for about a year and a half now and it currently blue books for about $3750, and I've got people interested in it for the $3500 mark when I do decide to let it go (but I'm in colorado and there's a decent market for these). So now that you know I got my Volvo for dirt cheap and have owned it for some time and have experience with it first hand, I'll share my 2 cents.
I can tell you honestly, I fucking hate the thing with a passion. Yes, it's a fun car to drive, it has all wheel drive, great for snow. It's turbo'd and humerously fast, I'm actually going to say I'm very impressed with how large and heavy it is this thing does fly. It has power everything, seat warmers, 3rd row seating and the back seats can fold down completely and I can lay completely flat and I'm 6'1". I've used it as a "yuppy pickup truck" as some friends like to call it to haul all sorts of things.
Now you might ask "well he just said all sorts of good stuff about it, why does he hate it". Well, let's make it clear, I fucking hate it, with a passion... It's the most rediculous, over engineered, over priced, overly complicated, piece of garbage car that I've ever had to put my time, money, and labor into. Volvo's parts are so exspensive and the labor on them at shops are marked up for the simple fact they're a pain in the ass to work on. And I'm a full time mechanic. Not to toot my own horn but I pretty well can diagnose and fix anything on a vehicle if you give me the time and parts to troubleshoot and repair it, and it's what I've done for years to my vehicles. Rebuild engines, transmissions, axles, electrical, name it I can do it. Only thing I can't do, is body work.
Now I will say this, if you get a Volvo that has been well maintained, and continue to maintain it, and I mean COMPLETELY maintain it. Whether you do it yourself or through a shop or the dealer, just maintain it regularly, it would be considerable. If it's broke then fix it asap because it will get worse. If you get one that's been taken care of and you plan on doing the same and can afford it, then they are decent cars. But don't ever buy one that gives you the slightest hint that it may have something wrong with it or it's been neglected or abused.
I will say whole heartedly that yes Honda's may not be as comfortable as my volvo or as luxorious and spaceous. But atleast I know a Honda is reliable and if something was to happen to it I can fix it quickly, unlike with the Volvo it would take the planets to align all at the same moment jenny craig farts just for the parts to be in stock at the local store and an ostrich hiccup perfusely in front of a flamingo to have all the work to be completed before I have to go to work the next day... I've had 11 Honda's since I was 16, from just daily drivers to the current one I have now thats got a built engine and turbo'd pushing 385whp on e85 fuel... This Volvo has ruined it for me, no matter how comfortable it is and "nice to drive", I'm always having that dreadful thought if something does go wrong with it. Just my 2 cents though, in the mean while, you can buy mine if you'd like?

I believe the expensive part. That I've also heard about. Safe sturdy, but expensive and hard to work on. Like having an early SAAB... stupid ass reverse engines.... |
