Another Gun Owner Thread

So, I've been wanting to purchase a handgun for awhile now, both for recreation and personal protection should the need arise.. and since I'll be moving to Atlanta in the fall, the chances that need would arise are going to increase by about ... a lot. Haha. But really, I hope and pray I never have to use it for protection against another human being, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Anyways, I was wanting to hear some recommendations from you gun owning folks. Here's what I've been looking into:
I'm looking for a revolver (always been a fan, first gun I ever shot was a 1912 Iver Johnson .32).
Probably .38 special or .357 (MAYBE .45, but for me the size of the gun may be an issue for concealed carry etc)
My budget is $400ish. I could possible shell out $500, but I'd rather be able to save that extra cash for ammo/holster/case and all that.
So what say ye?

I bought my wife a smith revolver for home protection when I'm not there. I went and a spent a little extra and got the .357 mag, due to the fact that you can .38's out of it. So when I shoot it I use the .357 round. When she shoots she uses the less recoil .38. When it goes in our secret hiding spot in the house it's loaded with the .38 for her! Other then that the bedside gun is a semi auto colt 45 and the gun that stays loaded in the truck is a semi auto Springfield Armory XD 45! I like semi autos but revolvers are fail safe! |

For personal protection get yourself a semi-auto shotgun ($400). Effective, dirt cheap, less chance of missing, way more intimidating.

Well yeah that'd be for home protection.. This one's going to be for concealed carry if I so choose. Can't really conceal a shotgun.

now now yes! loose the butt stock, go with a pistol grip only, cut the barrel down and you could walk around in a regular jacket!
Any way. This is my wifes .38/.357 mag! easy carry gun.

I just got a new pistol this afternoon. Ruger sr-40. Nice little range gun. Its my new bedside backup. |
