YES! A new mouse makes a huge difference, or at least in my opinion. I still have my old style g5. Great mouse, but i finally broke the scroll wheel, so I gotta get a new one. I wouldnt spend 200 on a mouse, you can find really good ones online for like 60-70 bucks. |

Yes, the reason why I'm doing well in CSS and other online shooters is my mouse.
The thing is that, optical and laser mice haver greater sensitivity when your looking around in game. In some cheap mices, when you look around quickly, it stutters/lags and that ruins the game play experience, because the cheap optical sensors aren't capable of determining your movement since your going to fast.
I have purchased the logitech mx518 and never looked back to any mouse. The mouse has the ability to change different dpi from 800 to 1600 dpi and its very comfortable in long gaming sessions!
The MX518 is still being sold around retail stores for $50>. Online you should get it for around $30-$40 with or without shipping.
If you want something newer and better than the mx518, the G400 is the next version of mx518.

I believe player Nomed uses the MX518 and he may also give his view on the mouse. Its a great mouse. I bought mine in 2007 and still works!

As much as i like razer ( my keyboard and headphones are razer) I'm not a fan of their mice at all. Just personal preference, they dont really feel comfortable in my hand. |

I have a microsoft 3 button mouse that's old as hell and I do well in gaming.
All it matters is that you properly set up the sensitivity of your mouse and mouse acceleration for it's DPI and you should be ok with any mouse

i'm so used to those cheap $10 logitech mice that you find at walmart, mostly because it's all i could afford. 3 buttons usually does the trick... you just really have to get to know your mouse is all.
i recently got this as a birthday present:

pretty badass, but again it's taking some getting used to. i don't know, some people are reallllllly picky about their mice. i don't have much of a preference, but i do like the logitech gaming mice, and they really have gone down in price.

but i do agree with steal... not a huge fan of razer mice.

I've tried playing with many mice. I think I'm forever sold to the G500. Until they make a girl version that's smaller for our hands, and maybe purple and bedazzled and shoots out rainbows and fairy dust.

I totally agree about hating wireless mice. I used to have a wireless keyboard and mouse but hated it for playing Unreal Tournament (the original). I had a 2nd wired mouse on my computer because the wireless lag drove me crazy. I also had a Nostromo n50 gamepad so I didn't have to use the wireless keyboard.
I played all the time and got into the top 200 on UT Worldstats and ran a top 50 server off my wife's computer. I had zero lag anywhere and it was awesome. Nothing like plugging you PC into the same switch as the server.
I can't even stand wireless for general use anymore. I had one at work and put it on a shelf and replaced it with a $10 Logitech wheel mouse. I laugh when people keep telling me there's no lag in a wireless mouse/keyboard. |

here's what i run...
http://www.thinkg...hies/e5b9/
works great for a handful of games. I have my 1 key on the side bound for talking, 2 for switching to grenades..dont even use the rest.
however, if you play other games like D3 or something they can come even more in handy (1-inventory, 2-skills, 3-minimap).
not a terrible price, either, and click-ability is stellar |

I took Terrowrists advice and bought the G400 from logitech. I was having trouble aiming and moving around smoothly and I thought it was my computer. Turns out it was my old shitty mouse because I can actually aim on someones head now when I want to and im not getting the stutter that I was before. Thanks Terrowrist This Mouse is AWESOME!!!! |
